Jose Debes, MD, PhD

Jose Debes, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor in Medicine at the University of Minnesota and has faculty appointments in the School of Public Health, Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, at UMN as well as Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Erasmus University, the Netherlands. He obtained his medical degree from Universidad Nacional de Cordoba in Argentina, a Masters in Tumor Biology from the Mayo Graduate School in Rochester, MN and a PhD on immune-oncology from Erasmus University in the Netherlands. He carried out his clinical training in Medicine and Gastroenterology & Hepatology at the University of Minnesota (NIH NRSA award).

He founded and leads the South American Liver Research Network (SALRN) and the African Hepatitis B Network. Currently he divides his time between translational and clinical research, global awareness advocacy for viral hepatitis and caring for patients with liver disease. When he is not at work he is spending time with his family, running, traveling, and learning about wine.
